Abstract: This research examines the impact of motivation on adult learning retention. The study aimed to explore how various motivational factors influence the ability of adult learners to retain and apply knowledge acquired through educational programs. The objectives were to assess the relationship between motivation levels and learning retention, to evaluate the effectiveness of different motivational strategies, and to identify key factors that enhance retention. A survey research design was utilized to collect data from adult learners, as it allows for a detailed analysis of motivational influences on learning outcomes. A sample size of 280 adult learners was selected to provide a broad view of motivational impacts on retention. The purposive sampling technique was used to focus on individuals with varying levels of motivation in their learning experiences. The case study was conducted in Enugu, Nigeria, where diverse motivational strategies are employed in adult education. Findings indicated that higher motivation levels significantly improved learning retention, and motivational strategies such as goal setting and rewards were particularly effective. The study recommended implementing targeted motivational strategies and support systems to enhance learning retention among adult learners.
